The story of those who were there…
May 3, 2014. The day of the Italian Cup final: Fiorentina vs Napoli
At 4:00 p.m., the Ultras Napoli (UN) set off in their cars en route to the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy, for the final match. Upon their arrival in Rome, they encountered heavy traffic around the stadium, particularly in the Tor di Quinto area. Stuck in the congestion, UN suddenly heard the detonation of paper bombs and observed smoke emanating from beneath a bus, which happened to be carrying families with children instead of ultras.
Alarmed by the situation, UN exited their vehicles to investigate. They discovered that the culprits behind the disturbance were ultras Roma, identifiable by their tattoos. As UN approached, the ultras Roma began to flee. Amidst the chaos, one of them stumbled and, showing signs of distress, brandished a pistol, threatening to kill everyone. He fired a shot, hitting Ciro, but fortunately, the firearm malfunctioned, allowing UN to apprehend him.
In the subsequent days, prayers for Ciro poured in from across the globe. Despite his valiant two-month battle, Ciro succumbed to his injuries on June 25. His legacy endures as that of a cherished friend, remembered for his heroic actions in protecting the bus carrying children.
“Ciro is here, and sing with us!”
