The 46 year old fan of Ethnikos, Costas Katsoulis, who was seriously injured at Alikarnassos stadium a few days ago, passed away on Monday morning in 401 Military Hospital of Athens.
Until Sunday night, the 46 year old fan was under mechanical support in deep coma.
The last official medical announcement told that his health situation was bad and only a miracle could save him.
The Incident:
A football fan was seriously injured after violence in a Football League 2 match in Heraklion between Irodotos and Ethnikos.
The 46 year old fan of Ethnikos was immediately taken to Venizelio Hospital, where doctors found that he has a large brain aneurysm.All started at 75′, when fans of Irodotos attacked to the fans of Ethnikos.
According to information, fans of Irodotos started hitting him violently on the head.
A 27 year old fan was arrested by the Police, along with two other fans.
The 46 year old, who lives at Chania on western Crete for the last 20 years, was carried unconscious to Venizelio Hospital, where the doctors pronounced him clinically dead.
Another fan of Ethnikos, a 37 year old man, is also hospitalized in Venizelio Hospital. He was injured in the head and his cheekbone has broken.
Ethnikos president Alexis Angelopoulos alleged that the referee insisted on finishing the game after the stoppage from the clashes, even going as far as asking the match doctor to stay at the stadium for the game to go on.
Angelopoulos added that it took half an hour for the ambulance to arrive.
