Water polo Crvena Zvezda players attacked in Split. 09.02.2019

Three Serbian water polo players were attacked on the promenade in the southern Split before their match against VK Mornan team. Two of the players managed to run away while one escaped by jumping into the sea.

After this incident, VK Crvena Zvezda resigned from the match and returned to Belgrade.

According to unofficial sources, the attackers were apparently provoked by the fact that the three players wore their team’s jerseys.

Tensions are still high between Croatia and Serbia after their war in the 1990s.
