Government in Greece suspended the football league because of riots during matches

The government in Greece – Syriza /Radical Left Coalition/ decided to suspend the football championship of the country until further notice.

The decision was taken in connection with the latest wave of violence in the Super League. The measure was taken after the events during the last derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos on Sunday.

Government of Syriza, which came to rule in Greece in late January, wants to remove the problem of violence among fans.

“We were informed that the championship was suspended indefinitely.” said the president of Super League – George Borovilos.

“We have a new government, which wants to draw attention to this problem and to launch a debate about violence in stadiums.” added the head of the Professional Football League in Greece.
